I hope
everyone enjoyed the Workshop
as much as we did.
Hope you find this page helpful with its summary and Tab from the session
Session started by looking at 1/4
note version of Old Joey. (basically Old Joe Clarke). Important points
were playing all the 1/4 notes as downstrokes why?
and to try and keep your hand moving constantly in an even motion
why?
Then went onto a double stop version
of the above tune still playing quarter notes (down strokes) making sure technique
allows both strings to sound. Make
sure grip does not tighten on plectrum! Double stops in this style on the
mandolin can be used to give it a 'mountain sound' (put in those hammer-ons!)
Double stops played with downstrokes were used by Mr Bill Monroe and others
when doing blues numbers like Tennesse Blues and mandolin breaks in Gospel
numbers
Playing quarter note double stops not only is a nice effect, it is good for
overall technique.
