Welcome to the
workshop page, there is a saying, I'm told, that
" Its Good to talk" and workshops are a good way of talking
about your own playing or getting to know more about the mandolin.
20-22nd. June 2003
at the Suffolk showground, Ipswich with a wide variety of fabulous
music:
Friday night will be a good ol'
50's/60's rock and roll night.
Saturday 21st will encompass
traditional country, celtic and blue grass music.
During the day I will be running a Mandolin Workshop - see you there!
Sunday will be a day for the line
dancers to strut their stuff.

Food for Thought . . . . .
Getting a good tone.
Getting a good tone is not about owning the most expensive instrument you can afford, although it can sometimes help!
How you fret notes,
hold notes, use the plectrum and use dynamics have a major impact - this all
sounds very technical and it is!
However it all boils down to THE SOUND you make. The first step to getting
a good tone is to LISTEN to what your are playing and then get some feeling
into what you are playing.
This only starts to works when you know a tune well enough to play it without
looking at your hands or tablature / music.
You have hopefully heard that Frank Wakefield is on a tour March 2004 and visits various venues in the UK. You must get to see him play, he is one of the 'original' Bluegrass Mandolin players.
He is at Steeple Morden,Cambridge 27th March 2004. He will be arriving in the afternoon - in the morning I have been asked to take a mandolin workshop - thats ok - but hopefully Frank will be doing a mandolin Workshop in the afternoon.
I am planning to run through one of Frank's original tunes on my workshop - New Campton Races in Bb (tabledit file) right click to download
